Frequently Asked Questions

Please contact us if we left any questions out! I'd really like to make sure I'm addressing everything I can. Thanks!

Okay, I'm interested, what now?

Contact us on the website or by phone to schedule a time that works best for you for us to come over and take some measurements and give an exact cost.

If I already have internet, what are my options?

You can choose to aggregate your current connection into our network to increase the bandwidth availability for everyone, or keep it and use us as a backup, or after stage 2 you can cancel your internet service and just use us.

Do you help protect us from security threats?

Yes! All residents on the network are protected at the edge using our Cisco ASA (adaptive security appliance) and VMWare NSX-T. Additionally, we have other measures in place to help maintain security and integrity across the network. We also will help you in the event you encounter any security threats (free of charge), as well as notify you if we notice anything on our end.

Since we're all on the same network, does that mean all of my neighbors can access my devices?

No, every house is physically seperated on their own independent vLAN.

Do you charge for labor?

Yes, we charge $100 for one person and $150 for two. We work very quickly and are always transparent about our costs and time. We pride ourselves on being faster and more inexpensive than our competitors. We hope you can understand. Thank you! For reference, structured wiring typically costs around $253.29 - $302.89 (per connection). Typically, you would expect to have to hire several contractors to do a full network install, but we do it all at a fraction of the price.

Is this a for-profit business?

We are a non-profit community owned business with a mission to building a better future for our infrastructure needs of today and the future.

How much does it cost?

Schedule a survey to get the exact cost, but roughly $9.89 per foot from the width of your property between your two closest neighbors. Generally this will be under $1,000. The smaller the lot, the lower the cost.

What do you need to install?

We need to install conduit that will go the width of your property (between both of your neighbors), additionally we will need to junction off that conduit to your house where we will connect the switch. Inside that conduit will be a single-mode fiber optic cable. The switch can be located wherever is the most accessible by you and us in-case we need to fix something. Each house will also be connected with a wireless AP which will bridge the network if the fiber ever gets cut for some reason. The AP will also give you wireless access to the network.

What does the cost cover?

The cost covers everything except the monthly service rate, which is evenly split up between all the residents that are connected to the network. The monthly service cost will not exceed $100. The installation cost covers the conduit, fiber, transceivers, switches, access points, labor. - basically everything you need to get connected.

Is there any malicious traffic filtering?

Yes, we filter malicious traffic at the edge using Cisco ASA (Adaptive Security Appliances) and VMWare NSX-T. This should not interfere with your day-to-day, but will help protect you from some viruses and other types of malware. Mainly this is meant to prevent C2 (Command and Control) communication if a device becomes infected, and to alert us to notify you that a device may be infected.

How do I connect a telephone to the network?

To connect a telephone to our network, you just need a device called an ATA. They are about $20 and are hooked up very easily. Please note that this will not give your telephone the ability to make external calls or dial 911 without a service plan. This is simply just to contact other neighbors over the lan. If you would like external calling on the network that will be billed on an individual basis, and is generally under $20 a month. Price also goes down the more people who use it. Please contact us first if you're interested in using this feature for more up-to-date information.
